PoisonousAvacado is the name of my youtube channel that I created about half a year ago. What I do on there is make videos about topics that go on in my life and the news. I have a series called Adam Rants where I do just that. Now I will be posting more on my blog so you guys can stay updated with my videos! Spirit Walker - Book Review

Spirit Walker is the second book of the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness Series. It is about Torak finding a cure for the sickness in the forest. He has to travel across the waters to the Seal Camp, where people who thought were nice to him, tried to kill him in the end. This book is a page turner and their are so many interesting twists in it.

This is my favorite book so far in this series because it is interesting to learn how all the different clans used the animals for everything. Weapons, pots, knives, clothes, oil. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an adventure. This was awesome! Well....until next time.

WWII Veteran Interview - Doy Davis

May 6, 2013 marked the 68th Anniversary of the end of WWII. For my social studies class we were required to interview somebody that lived through the second World War.

 The people belonging to what came to be known as "the Greatest Generation," are becoming a rare commodity nowadays. We are talking about people whose parents lived through the hardship of WWI, the feasting times of the roaring twenties only to fall on the harshest economic times of the Great Depression in the early 30's.So imagine being raised by parents such as those who hoped for the best and planned for the worst, never knowing economic stability always expecting harsh times to come up at the turn of the season.

 Those were the kids, who grew up and lived through WWII as soldiers who went to fight on far away lands across the ocean. There were also the wives who stayed behind and pulled the country up by the bootstraps taking the jobs of men in factories, offices, and fields so the economy could keep going. Not everybody went to the front to fight. Those who stayed behind sacrificed almost as much as the soldiers who left, many soldiers had the duty of guarding the homeland in case of an attack (such as what happened at Pearl Harbor 1942). Not all duties were glorious, heroic battles. They were nevertheless very necessary.

68 years later the people who were in their 20's and 30's during the war have mostly passed on. Each year less and less WWII veterans are seen on tv on those special days of remembrance. They are living historical patrimony, national human monuments, living testimony of a great piece of history. I've searched for weeks for a WWII veteran I could interview down here in Miami Dade County. I've contacted the American Legion, the V.A. hospital, even the local office of the veteran administration affairs to find somebody to interview. There were a few, less than five all of whom were not available due to poor health or illness. I was fortunate to discover a gentlemen who served in the Navy during WWII, however he lived 215 miles north of here, all the way up in Vero Beach, Florida. He had been visiting his children up North and luckily returned one week prior the project was due.

When I finally heard that he had returned, I convinced my dad to drive me up to Vero Beach with my video camera so I can interview him before he had to travel again or would be otherwise unavailable again. Mr. Doy Davis was stationed in the Aleutians Islands, in Kodiak, Alaska. We are all fortunate to be able to learn from such a heroic generation. Not because they fought in WWII but because of the values they had, because of the way they were raised, the love they had for their country for the American way of life. They never took anything for granted earning everything they got, taking pride in everything they did and never complaining. They still do not feel entitled and overall should be remembered for their great love of their fellow man. They were willing to shed their own blood for the freedom of complete strangers. They believed in freedom that much. Mr. Doy Davis is such a man as you will hear for yourself from his own words.

Wolf Brother - Book Review

Wolf Brother is a book about Torak a 12-year-old boy losing his father to a demon bear that is invincible. In the beginning Torak does not realize that the baby cub following him around would be his best friend in the end that he will miss the most. Torak can communicate with the cub because he is half wolf half human. In the end they eventually defeat the bear, but that is not the end of this series.

I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a page turner and adventure book. I bought the rest of the series after I finished the first one and am now working on the second book called Spirit Walker. This book is amazing and I look forward to reading many more of Michelle Paver's novels.

Lord of the Flies - Book Review

This book is about a plane that crashed down with a group of boys in it. They landed in the middle of a tropical island. Ralph and "Piggy" find a conch and use it to call in all the other boys. This book is about the boys surviving and eventually making a fire on a mountain to signal nearby ships. They eventually get rescued but, the journey wasn't easy, it was sad and at the same time fun to have no adult's around to tell them what to do.

I enjoyed this book as a teenager because I do not like adult's telling me what to do. It was a little bit slow, but if you read a lot in one shot, it will start to get interesting. so it would be fun to be stranded on an island for a little bit. Then again I would not be able to survive on my own so maybe not. This is a great classic and I recommend it to everyone! Well, until next time....

Why is Snot Green? - by Glenn Murphy

Believe it or not, this book is actually not what you think. It actually has a lot of interesting questions and answers to questions kids like me would like to know. Like, what is the space made out of? Although, it looks funny, it puts these complex answers into a short, funny way of understanding it. There are also questions about the human body and animals. It's an easy read, but also very interesting, so if you want to know some facts, then check this book out! Well, until next time...

Christmas Jars by Jason Wright

Christmas Jars is a book about a women who works for a newspaper company. Her place in the office is just like any other normal worker, but when she releases her story, it becomes a great hit and is printed on the front page of the newspaper. It all starts on a Christmas Eve night when she opens her apartment door and everything is destroyed. She is shocked that someone had robbed her. She calls the police and they come in an instant. When she walks out of her door, she notices a jar labeled "Christmas Jar". She asks the police if they put that there but they said it was there when they came. Knocking on peoples doors she asks them if its their's and they say "No, keep it for yourself." This story goes is about Hope Jensen trying to find who left the Christmas Jars and why?

This is a very inspiring story. It had quite a few sad parts, but it's nice in the end. I recommend this story to anyone who wants to read something that is inspiring. It inspires you to make your own Christmas Jar and give it to people who are in need. Well, until next time....

Augustus Pelletier - Book Review

Kathryn Lasky wrote The Journal of Augustus Pelletier. This book is about a 13-year-old boy named Augustus, that tells about the Lewis and Clark Expediton from his point of view. It is interesting how this book goes in detail from the animals that Lewis caught to the great rivers they named. Their expedition ended at the Pacific Ocean, or as they call it "The Shining Sea." On the Journey they meet various Indian tribes, I am sure you have heard of Sacagawea. She was part of the Shoshini tribe. Sacagawea was separated from her tribe at a young age and sold. In this book, their are harsh parts, like whippings being given for ridiculous reasons, and their are glorious parts like a new child being born.

I found this book very interesting. I learned quite a lot from it, but it was still fun to read. I found myself reading it at my cousin's house when I was bored. I recommend this book to anyone who likes history or wants to read about an interesting journey with ups and downs. Well, Until next time....

Jhaqueil Reagan- 18 year old hero

This article is about an 18 year old that walks through the harsh cold weather and snow for 10 miles for a job interview at Dairy Queen. In Indiana the minimum wage is $7.25 per hour! Luckily, this teen happened to run into the proprietor of Papa Roux (a Cajun Restaurant). Mr. Bouvier was approached by this teen who asked him how far it was to 10th and Sherman. Mr. Bouvier said, "Thats probably 6 or 7 miles, you better be off on a bus with this weather." The teen said Thank you and kept walking.

 He didn't have money for a bus fare though. Later on, Mr. Bouvier was in his car with his wife driving to a coffee shop. On the way, he sees the same teen, still walking. He pulled over and asked if Jhaqueil needed a ride. He obliged and along the way, he told them that he had been walking 3 miles before he got to Papa Roux. Mr. Bouvier was amazed that he was planning to walk 10 miles. Mr. Bouvier said that, even if he was offered a job at Dairy Queen, that he (Mr. Bouvier) would double his salary if he came and worked at Papa Roux. He accepted and started his first day on Monday. This is a truly amazing story, but the reason why I call him a hero in the title is because he is doing this all for his brothers and sisters. He said it was because his mom died 2 years ago and was looking for a job. He had to drop out of high school and recently got his GED, and he also got a year supply of bus passes!


I think he is a great role model for teens like me because he shows dedication and responsibility. This is a truly amazing story. Please share this on facebook, twitter, instagram, etc...
